California Movers Local & Long Distance Company

This company is operating without a license. The first time I used them was great, the second time I was scammed. The company tried to upcharge me (despite my all inclusive rate), they ruined property, and stole from me. When I contacted them they promised me a full refund then told me they never said they would refund me. They told me not to contact them again.

When I reached out to the Attorney General, I was told that the company was operating without a license and that they would be investigated.

I’ll never get my money back or my stolen belongings back (it’s not worth a lawyer or emotional stress after so much trauma/violation). My advice: find a company with a license, don’t believe the positive Facebook reviews.

Their yelp was taken down (despite their claimed 5 star rating). So many red flags!

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $800

I had the best experience with California Movers. Our last move so much easier than I thought it would be. I don't usually come back to leave a review, but this time I felt like I had to. The movers were so helpful every time we had questions and were really knowledgeable too. I would definitely recommend this company to any friends and family who need help with their move. They really helped make a stressful experience so much easier for us, plus they were affordable. This is basically what every moving company should be like. Professional, efficient and absolutely no stress. In my opinion they are the best. The movers are a super packer and have the ability to make the truck fit way more than you think. Just the perfect moving team that sets the high standard from the beginning. As experienced movers they even guided me in every step of moving process. I highly recommend them!

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1200

We’be been charged over $2K cash for 3 beds and 10 hours local moving! They sent unprofessional and none efficient movers! They totally took over 2 hours breaks, plus playing my son's volleyball outside of my home during the working hours. Finally they did Not take this over 2-hour break out of my paymentaswhat they promised. I tried several times by phone and email for refunding the break time. No response! Tons of moving companies in the market, please avoiding this scam!

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2350

Please do not use this company if you actually want to move on your move out date. I had scheduled my move between 12 to 2 pm but nobody showed up even if it was already 2 pm. I tried to reach them and called them multiple times but nobody answered my calls. After several attempts, I was finally able to contact them, and asked them why nobody showed up. They said there was a delay in the previous move, and their estimated arrival time now is 4 pm. They are going to be late for 2 hours, and they did not even bother to call me. Great. So I asked, I reserved my elevator at my destination from 4 to 6 pm, and if they come that late, we might not even able to make it. My new apartment does not allow elevator reservation after 6, so this was not a great situation. And their response was, oh we can reschedule your move to some other date. Are you kidding me? I am all packed up and need to evacuate by the move out date, and how can I possibly change the move date? So I decided to move a lot of things myself so that we can minimize the time once the movers arrived. I did a lot of moving myself until they arrived. The movers finally arrived at 4 pm as they said, and the moving was finished within 2 hours because I did the most of the moving already. But guess what? They charged me for the minimum 3 hours. In addition, when I checked the moved furniture, it was damaged. Overall, it was the worst moving experience. If you don't want to risk your move, do not use this company.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $465

Movers were supposed to arrive between 2-4 and arrived at 6:30. Received different reasons for lateness from the company and the movers themselves. By the time they were finally done at 1am, I saw the TV screen was smashed and they acted surprised like they didn’t know, although they set up the TV in the new apartment..they were just not going to say anything. Then I noticed all over the apartment the chipped paint and marks along the walls, they used a dolly on the stairs, which left long black marks. They also left all the trash up and down the stairs, which I had to clean up the next day. I’ve sent many emails and calls and submitted emails to their “claims department” but no word. The mover said because I signed up for basic insurance, I should get $0.60 per pound of damage. So they told me to sign up for basic insurance, smashed my TV without any liability, and now want to tell me “tough luck.” This place is a joke and a scam. Do not give them your money or business. I’ll keep this review updated if they ever get me some money back. So angry.

We hired this company for packing only, as we already had a moving company lined up. The packing team was friendly, but their packing skills were atrocious. Fragile items were inadequately protected and mixed in with heavy metal objects. Most requests were ignored. Bubblewrap sleeves purchased by us specifically for stemware were later found used as loose padding in a single box. Boxes were often crammed so full they bulged at the seams, and almost all were sloppily taped. In the end we spent several days repacking 80% of what the team had packed. The owner of the company has been unresponsive despite receiving multiple pictures of badly packed boxes. To add insult to injury, I strongly suspect one or more team members of sampling our liquor as thy packed it.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $1400

They moved my mom to Iowa from California. Although most everything arrived safely, the one box of very expensive wine straight from Napa Valley went missing! WE we reached out multiple times and got crickets!! It's not like we can replace those bottles by going to the grocery store here! Checked everything when the truck is empty and didn't see it, so where did it go??

They also asked for their tip which I thought was very unprofessional! They got one, which now wish I would have reduced...but seriously who asks for a tip! Would not recommend!!

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $14000

One of my friend recommended this company cause they had a good experience with them, so I didn’t even search other companies… and so happy about it. Guys are really awesome! after when I’d sent a request throw their website I received a call after 5 minutes, which I didn’t even expect that it was going to be so fast. its cool! so we had a lot of stuff and it was quite really heavy, especially my piano. So we scheduled our moving and team came 5 minutes before and was ready for work. Guys were so nice and friendly, they were caring about our items like it was their stuff, they were so helpful and if we had any questions they gave us full and completed answer, its really appreciated. All the process from wrapping, loading and then unloading on the place was smooth, and my piano was with me the same as other stuff! Seriously I didn’t believe that it can be so easy and we had our time and had other things about what we need to worry. Thank you so much, guys for great job! we will definitely recommend you to our friends.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $900

They were supposed to show up between 4PM and 6PM with a 26 foot truck. Instead, they arrived at 7:30PM with a truck that was 25% smaller than was contracted. So much time was wasted ordering a second truck, moving things between the two trucks, and I ended up having to pack my own stuff in my own personal vehicle. By the time all this was finished, it was too late to unload the trucks at their proper destination so they put all my stuff in one of their own storage units (which of course they were going to bill me more for than I would have paid at the original destination) and didn't call me back for four days. I had no idea where my stuff was. To add salt to the wound, they billed me for all the wasted extra moving hours, charged me a ridiculous overnight fee, etc. Many calls, emails, and texts were ignored as I tried to resolve this situation. I eventually had to hire totally different movers to rescue my property from the storage unit they had put my stuff in. It was a total nightmare.

I fired them on the day of the move after I saw how poorly and slowly they were packing things.

I requested white glove service and college grade movers showed up. They were surprised by the size of the move, a 1 BR. They were not packing anything properly, eg, stacking 8 dishes into one paper wrapping or wrapping only the top part of a furniture piece and not the bottom. Totally unprofessional. The office was completely unhelpful.

The raving Yelp reviews on their site must be fake. Their Yelp page is not publicly accessible. Yelp needs to put a stop to that.

Out of the three guys that were sent, only one (Mike) deserve 5 stars. The other two were garbage. One (Guy 3)was late, and the other (guy 2)stole my Mango Drinks, drank them and left the empty cans in the cabinets. Not only that he texted on his phone for the entire time. Mike on the other hand, was very professional and never once did I see him on his phone, he had his own water, although I asked if he wanted something else to drink.

Now getting to the packing, Guy 2 was apparently responsible for the kitchen, well then tell me why were items still left and not packed. My microwave, mirrors, wall photos, (and not small ones), decor, and a plethora of items in the laundry room, to include my carpet cleaner. He was to involved in stealing my belongings instead of doing his job.

Trash was left in the apt, so now I have to clean up.

I WILL BE SENDING THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU this email as well because i also caught Guy 2 about to steal my alcohol that he was to pack. This company sent a thief to pack an ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY SERVICE MEMBERS BELONGINGS.

Let’s gets to the truck packing. So Guy 3 was supposed to be in charge of this I presume. Well let me just say, if I can post the picture of how my precious items were almost falling out of the truck. He didn’t shrink wrapped my couch pillows, and so they were just left out. I mean I was by myself so I could only be in one place at a time. My peloton was thrown about in the truck. I went off slightly. However, neither one of them at this point gave a dayum about damaging my property. I’m active military and I needed this move prior to my official orders coming down the pipe, and this is how I was treated. I forgot to mention, they had a 26ft truck and guy 3 was just that dumb, he didn’t know how to pack so that my items could fit.

Now let’s get to the actual storage. What an EFFIN DISASTER. When they opened up the truck, my bicycle was bent, my peloton was thrown about due to their drive to the storage. I mean my anxiety and my level of anger grew so fast. I stood to the side and watched them with the mark of..... well you know what I mean. When I tell you Guy 2 & 3 were rushing and throwing my items to the point that I had to say something. Poor Mike turned so red, but he definitely tried to fix the situation.

I took photos of the events and STILL while off loading the truck, guy 2 was texting. I decided at this time I needed to go up to my storage box and watch how Guy 3 was packing the 10x20 storage box. Now keep in mind I had a two bdrm apt, with only one bedroom set, my second bdrm was a small day bed set, one full living room set and more military gear than anything. ANDDDDD I bought bins from Lowe’s to pack myself prior to them coming to my apt to avoid them packing boxes. The point is, the yellow and black buns that I purchased were stackable. So any person in their right mind would know to pack all of the bins on top of each other.... well you noticed I said someone in their right mind. Ok, so when I suggested to him to do this, guy 3 told oh no everything will fit, it’s ok. I got it. I SHOULD HAVE used my better judgment, but I still gave him the benefit of the doubt.

When Mike FINALLY came up to the storage box from unloading the truck, I saw in his face that he knew that storage box was packed horrible. I began to lose it. I once again suggested that the items from the back was not packed correctly. And Guy 3 didn't want to listen for whatever reason. Mike told me he would fix it.

One hour later: I walked to my car, called the office and explained how much of a disgrace their company was to send a texting thief and non packing individual than has no concept of how to pack. When they charge you $210 you expect $210 worth of professionalism, not $2.10. The manager Alice that I spoke to did not help the situation at all. I would suggest to NEVER utilize this company because if they continue to charge so much for substandard people, then they win.

One good note is, Mike tried to do the best that he could, after being so disappointed, I tipped Mike, ONLY.

I had a wonderful experience with Russ and his team moving and they deserve 5 stars! The company was professional from the beginning. They confirmed the night before, again the next day. I had a two bedroom condo to move and they wrapped all the furniture in plastic for protection, including the beds, worked very quickly and efficiently. They were all very polite and hardworking. They had the truck loaded in record time. Upon arriving at our new home, the truck wouldn't fit over the bridge, so no problem, they parked on the side of the road and wheeled everything over the bridge to our house. No complaints!

Russ and his team were excellent, and made the move a great experience. The office was great to work with too.

They movers don’t wear masks, move as slow as they can do that they can charge more! Upon requesting a quote, they mentioned that there will be two professional movers. However, one adult and a child showed up who could barely do anything!

The guy had an attitude the entire time, huffing and puffing, rolling his eyes and was also so disrespectful to the buildings staff. He not only damaged the items as he would move them around, he would hit the walls and would not even apologize!

He originally said that the job only takes about 3 hours but after 6 hours, they were still not done! Avoid by all means!

We used them twice within 6 months- once for a preliminary move within San Francisco and then later for an interstate move up to Oregon. Both moves were rather complicated in terms of multiple locations, amount of cargo, and other stress-inducing variables that come with relocation, and this company could not have been better to us. The price was extremely reasonable, and the crews for both moves (headed by Assan the first time and Paul the second) were so wonderful. Quick, careful, professional, and most of all unbelievably friendly and good-natured, no matter how many physical obstacles were in their way. We could not recommend this company more highly.
